Day 5. Final Day! | 7lbs In 7 Days

Weight: 99lbs

As I’m fazing in a meal, my weight isn’t decreasing as much. By tonight, I reckon that number will go up another couple lbs.

Can’t comprehend how much I thoroughly dislike juice. Just, urg!

Good thing is we’ve run out of almost everything. So much to my dads satisfaction, I think tonight and maybe a couple juices for tomorrow, will be the last of it!!

(Makes enough for 2 people)  ————————————-

| CHANGES TO BE MADE |

As the end is super close, I’ve been thinking of ways to maintain this level of healthiness, but with much less juices throughout the day.

So, I’ve decided to shake up my regular diet. Working out/cardio is all good and well, but if you don’t have the diet to back it up, it’s a little pointless. They definitely go hand in hand.

Starting from Friday, I’ll be swapping;

• White pasta, noodles, spaghetti and rice for wholegrain and gluten-free options.

• Tomato based pasta sauces for homemade ones.

• Wholemeal bread for wholegrain, multi-seeded bread.

• Sainsburys own pizzas and curries for homemade ones.

• Most importantly, my regular sized meal portions, for half the amount.

This is so I know what’s going into my food, as well as ensuring portion control. As my stomach has shrunk, portion control is so much easier now.

E.g. Yesterday’s dinner would’ve been double the portion, if this was before the juicing cleanse.

I’m really happy that I stuck with this to (almost) the end. If I wasn’t losing weight so drastically, I would’ve tried to go for the whole 7 days. At least I now know what my body can handle.

The juicing cleanse was totally worth it!

Day 4. | Juicing Cleanse

Weight: 101lbs.

I’m wasting away! No, but seriously. I love love love my stomach right now. I’m pretty sure my arse is getting smaller though and I barely have an arse as it is, so back to the squats for that I think.

I’ve decided to drink 4 a day, instead of 5, and have a light dinner instead. I’ll still be drinking a couple mugs of green tea throughout the day, especially at night as it helps to digest the food. This will be incorporated with walking Maxx after dinner, just so everything can be digested properly.

Disclaimer: I FUCKING HATE JUICE.

Anywho…

————————————-

PRE-BREAKFAST | 8am: zilch. Refer back to yesterday’s note, as I’ve already used my quota of curse words in this entry.

| HUNGER LEVEL AND MOOD |

It’s crazy how chewing becomes a foreign concept. My appetite before I ate dinner was non-existent. Even eating dinner I didn’t feel hungry enough to savour it.

I’m really lucky my diet before this cleanse was healthy. I think if it wasn’t, I would’ve been suffering a lot more, especially as everyone moans about headaches and dizziness.

Besides from the now-awful taste of the juices and occasional hunger stabs, I haven’t had any of the drawbacks most people complain about.

| HUNGER LEVEL and MOOD |

I actually thought to myself this morning, that dog food doesn’t smell half as bad!

To make it worse, I contemplated taking the last pea my mum left on her dinner plate last night. A pea. What has my life come to?

Drawbacks: I’m pretty sure all this sugar, even though it’s natural, is irritating my eczema. That could just be my body getting used to it all as I don’t eat much sugar in my usual diet.

Another negative is that I keep getting small patches of redness on my face. It goes away after an hour but they usually appear after every juice. Again, could just be my body getting a shock with all the natural sugars.

However, still haven’t had any headaches etc etc. Felt hungry throughout the day but I’m getting used to just dealing with it now.

I’ve already written my food shop list for the end of the week. It’s keeping me going knowing there’s a light at the end of this dark, depressing tunnel.

My stomach and face look amazing. Stomach is super flat, got rid of those pesky muffin tops and my face looks more structured too.

The results I’m seeing are what’s keeping me powering through this ridiculously hard journey.

What I’d do for a pea right now. Sob…

Day 2. | 7lbs In 7 Days

Weight: 109lbs.

My weigh-in this morning shocked me a little. If I continue to lose 3 or 4lbs every day, I’m going to be seriously underweight. I’m going to take it day by day and see if the lbs that I’m losing decreases.

If by day 3 or 4, I’m near 100lbs, I might have to alter the plan for myself and just have 3 juices a day and eat dinner instead.

PRE-BREAKFAST | 8am: warm water with lime.

* Taste Score = 1/5 *

————————————-

BREAKFAST | 8:30am: Super Juice.

(Same as yesterday except I substituted grapefruit for pears)

2 apples, 1/2 lime, 2 pears, 1/3 cucumber, 1/2 avocado, 1 tsp spirulina, 1 capsul acidophilus bacteria powder, 1 tsp wheatgrass powder.

* Taste Score = 3/5 *

————————————-

MID MORNING | 11am: Super Juice (as above).  ————————————-

LUNCH | 1:30pm: Super Chute Juice.

(Same as yesterday)

2 apples, 1/4 carrot, 1/2 stick celery, 1 handful spinach leaves, 1/4 cucumber, 1/4 raw beetroot, 1/4 courgette, 1/4 lemon, 1/4 ginger.

* Taste Score = 4/5 *

————————————-

MID AFTERNOON | 4pm: Turbo Express.

(Same as yesterday)

1 pear, 1/2 stick celery, 1/5 cucumber, handful spinach leaves, 1/4 lime, 2 apples, 1/4 avocado, ice cubes.

* Taste Score = 3/5 *

DINNER | 7pm: Turbo Express and 1oz wheatgrass chaser.

(Same as above but with 1 heaped teaspoon of wheatgrass powder)

* Taste Score = 3/5 *

| HUNGER LEVEL AND MOOD |

I slept really well last night and didn’t wake up hungry at all.

By 10am today, I started to feel a little hungry. This went away quickly and I didn’t feel hungry again until 6pm.

Once again, no headaches, stomach pains, dizziness or crankiness. So I call that a result.

I must say though, the juices are beginning to lose their tastiness…

| HUNGER LEVEL AND MOOD |

I started to feel hungry after the mid morning juice. This went away within half an hour. By the time the mid afternoon juice came around, I wasn’t feeling hungry at all.

An hour before the dinner juice, I was hungry! After I had it, I was still a little hungry but I managed.

No headaches, stomach pains, dizziness or crankiness so far. We’ll see what the morning brings though…

So all in all, not a bad first day of juicing.

7lbs In 7 Days | Ingredients & Costs

| FRUIT, VEGGIES AND NUTRIENTS |

For 7 days of juicing (5 juices a day), I needed:

60 apples

2 lemons

6 limes

8 grapefruits (pineapple substitute as I’m allergic)

7 cucumbers

6 avocados

4 carrots

9 celery sticks

1 raw beetroot

1 courgette

1 large piece of ginger

1 banana

1 large orange

2 bags of spinach

1 bag of watercress

1 bag of kale

500g natural, organic yogurt

It’s not just fruit and vegetables you need. I also ordered from Amazon:

50g wheatgrass powder

50g spirulina powder

90 capsules acidophilus digestive health supplements

| COSTS |

The total cost of the fruit and vegetables came to £30. This worked out so much cheaper than buying from a supermarket as greengrocers/markets are so much cheaper!

Don’t forget: if you’re buying all your fresh stuff from a market, haggle a little on the total cost. You’ll be surprised how much they will knock off the total price. The 3 nutrients from Amazon totalled £15. However, all 3 of them will last you a long time. Hypothetically, if you were to juice for 28 days straight, those nutrients would last that long, perhaps even longer, as they aren’t required in every single juice you make.

Stay tuned for tomorrow when the juicing journey begins!

Upcoming Juicing Week | 7lbs In 7 Days Detox

I wanted to do an explanation/introduction post to my upcoming, week-long juicing battle…

I found my mum’s juicer at the back of the pots and pans cupboard a few days ago. She has used this juicer twice in her life. Twice! She also had Jason Vale’s Juicing Book, which had never been touched. Typical.

Jason ValeIf you don’t know who this guy is, go Google him. Jason was a smoking, alcohol and junk food addict and he managed to lose 5 stone through juicing.

Now, I’m not saying I need to lose a considerable amount of weight, but we all have parts of our body that don’t seem to budge. Mine is my stomach area. If I gain a couple pounds, it only ever goes on my face or on my stomach. More specifically, the dreaded muffin top area!

I know this is because I eat a lot of pasta and pasta and carbohydrates stick to this particular area, but because I’m a Pescatarian (and a picky eater), I’m limited to what I can eat.

| MY APPETITE & DAILY INTAKE |

There’s also the point of my appetite, which isn’t big at all. I force some cereal down myself in the mornings because it’s the most important meal of the day blah blah blah.

Breakfast: Kellogg’s crunchy nut cereal & skimmed milk

Mid-morning: low fat passionfruit yogurt

Lunch: usually leftovers – salmon salad, prawn pasta, quinoa with vegetables or cucumber sandwich on wholemeal seeded bread

Mid-afternoon: 100g strawberries and 100g melon

Dinner: fish and vegetables, or quinoa and vegetables, or quorn mince jacket potato and salad etc

On an average day, I consume 1,250 calories and do 40 minutes of walking, along with 20 minutes of working out.

| 7LBS IN 7 DAYS DETOX |

After some research, I found the “7lbs In 7 Days” detox. This was it! This was going to help me budge those problem areas and be Instagram ready for Australia in exactly 3 weeks’ time!

As I primarily eat fruit and vegetables anyway, I didn’t think it would be too difficult. As I work Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, I knew I wouldn’t be fussed about the solid meals I’d miss during those hours. But the hardest part of the 7 days would be dinner time, as this is my favourite meal of the day.

But I shall persevere! I shall!

| THE JOURNEY BEGINS… |

Either Saturday or Sunday morning. Best to start on a weekend so I get used to it before work on Monday.

| TOMORROWS POST | I’ll be giving you a rundown on all the fruit and veggies I’ve bought, including the costs, quantities needed etc.

Also, some information on the minerals to be taken with the drinks as a substitute for certain foods.

Until tomorrow then…bye lovelies!

Recipe | Red Thai Salmon Curry

Super easy recipe to make this delicious balanced meal.

Serves 2

| NUTRITIONAL CONTENTS |

• 453 calories

• 18.2g fat

• 3.5g saturated fat

| INGREDIENTS |

Light Coconut Milk (200ml)

Red Curry Paste (100g, but it depends how spicy you like it so adjust accordingly)

Fresh carrots, broccoli and cauliflower (however much you like)

Brown rice (50g dry rice, per person)

2 fresh salmon pieces

Extra virgin olive oil (2 tablespoons)

Saffron, parsley, salt, pepper, garlic (optional)

| METHOD |

1. Fill a large pan with boiling water. Once bubbling, pour the rice in and put on a medium heat. I used Sainsburys own brand of brown rice and this took 30 minutes to cook.

2. As your rice cooks away, heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a wok. Once heated, throw in your cut up vegetables and add the spices. Cook this through for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.

3. Add the coconut milk and simmer for 2 minutes. Then add the red Thai paste and cook for another 2 minutes. In the meantime, cut up your salmon.

4. Throw the salmon in and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.

5. The coconut milk will cook through quite quickly so you may need to keep adding cups of water every now and then. If you do add water, keep adding more spices, as the water will water down the overall mixture.

6. Simmer until the salmon flakes away when cut into.

Enjoy lovelies!

Mississippi Mud Pie

An extremely rainy Sunday afternoon led to a baking session with my mum. I had been eyeing up this recipe from a couple weeks ago on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch which looked so rich and chocolate-y. I just couldn’t resist.

You can find the full recipe here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/sunday-brunch/articles/july/easy-mississippi-mud-pie-recipe

The website states it serves 6 people and looking at the finished creation, I struggled to see how that could be. However, once tasting the mud pie, I realised: it was very rich so-much-so, 1/6 was more than enough to satisfy those sugar cravings.

We had some leftover chocolate sauce and plenty of strawberries in the fridge. Queue the second tastiest thing made…

Truely did spoil myself this weekend!

Happy baking lovelies!

Fathers Day Yummy Creation

On Sunday, I successfully had a go at this recipe I found online.

http://www.bakingmad.com/ultimate-fathers-day-chocolate-cake-recipe/

At first, it looked quite daunting but once you read it through, it’s actually quite simple. The end result makes for a super colourful, Instagram-worthy cake!

It went down very well and the inside tasted even better than how good the outside looked! I have to admit though, the toppings are purely for decoration and not much of it was consumed. Still looks pretty though.
